Book Review: Taken by the Pack (Mate Hunt, #2)

When I first picked up Taken by the Pack by Lola Glass, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation. Having thoroughly enjoyed the first installment in the Mate Hunt series, I was eager to dive back into the quirky world of werewolves and their captivating rituals. This second book, however, isn’t just a continuation; it deepens the lore and the humor in ways I didn’t expect. If you haven’t read the previous book, I highly recommend doing so. Trust me, the nuances and relationships introduced are crucial for fully appreciating this hilarious adventure.

The story centers around Ebony and Ford, whose chemistry sparks right off the page. I loved how Lola expertly crafted a playful yet meaningful bond between these characters. What sets this installment apart is how it lightens the tone around the traditional mating rituals. Instead of a darker, more intense storyline, we are gifted with witty banter and comical situations, making the experience feel fresh. The humor is a delightful counterpoint to the deeper themes, including anxiety, loss, and personal growth.

Ebony’s character truly stole my heart. Shifting from an ordinary college student to a woman embroiled in supernatural chaos, her journey resonates on many levels—especially her struggle with the remnants of a painful past tied to her ex, Reed. And while I found Reed a little overbearing as the story progressed, it brought forth a relevant commentary on self-worth and the complexities of moving on. I appreciated how Ford, while clearly smitten, handles the situation with care. His response to Reed’s interference was refreshing and demonstrated admirable restraint—a necessary counterbalance to the possessiveness expected from a “beta wolf.”

Lola’s writing style continues to shine, though I did notice a few grammatical hiccups—mainly in punctuation—which momentarily pulled me from the narrative flow. However, the vivid world-building effectively transported me to Moon River, making it feel like a cozy, inviting setting filled with characters I’d want to hang out with. The pacing was spot on, allowing me to revel in the romance while also enjoying the comedic elements without feeling rushed.

For werewolf enthusiasts or anyone intrigued by paranormal romance, Taken by the Pack offers a unique twist on the genre. The series combines laughter, love, and just a sprinkle of heartache, making it an enjoyable read that sparkles with charm. If you’re looking for humor in your romantic escapades alongside some genuine moments of reflection, this book fits the bill perfectly.

Overall, my time in Moon River has been a treat, and I can’t help but wish for more insights into the werewolf world and characters I’ve grown to adore. If you find yourself looking for a lightweight yet impactful read, I sincerely hope you’ll consider picking up Taken by the Pack. It’s a delightful addition to the Mate Hunt series and one that left me eager for the next adventure!
